What is a bead pattern maker?
A bead pattern maker converts a picture into a grid where every square is one fuse bead on a pegboard. This tool does that with real brand palettes: each peg is matched to an actual Perler, Hama, Artkal S or MARD color code, so the pattern you print is one you can buy beads for. Row and column numbers along the edges and a bold line every 5 pegs make placing hundreds of beads far less error-prone.
Start from a standard 29×29 pegboard, a 14×14 mini board, or join 2×2 or 3×3 boards for portraits. Drop in a photo and cap the palette at, say, 12 or 24 colors to keep your shopping list short; the bead list below the pattern shows each code, its name and exactly how many beads you need, and can be copied or downloaded as CSV.
You can also design from scratch: paint straight onto the blank numbered board with any color from the brand range, then export the pattern as a high-resolution PNG or a printable A4 / Letter PDF that includes the bead list as a second page. Pick a 29×29 standard board, a 14×14 mini board or 2×2 / 3×3 joined boards, then choose Perler, Hama, Artkal S or MARD. Every color the tool uses is a real bead code from that brand.

How do I turn a photo into a Perler bead pattern?+
Drop the photo onto the board. Each peg becomes the average color beneath it, snapped to the nearest real Perler (or Hama, Artkal, MARD) bead color. Choose the board size first — 29×29 for one large pegboard — then adjust “Max bead colors” until the picture reads well with a palette you can actually buy.
Which pegboard sizes are supported?+
Presets cover the 14×14 small square board, the 29×29 large square board and 2×2 (58×58) or 3×3 (87×87) joined boards. Type any width up to 128 pegs for custom layouts; the height follows the photo’s aspect ratio, or set it yourself for a blank board.
Does it tell me how many beads of each color I need?+
Yes. The bead list under the pattern shows every color with its brand code, name and count, most-used first, plus the total. The PDF adds this list as a second page and the CSV export opens in any spreadsheet.
Can I switch between Perler, Hama, Artkal and MARD?+
Switch brands at any time and the photo is re-matched to that brand’s colors. Perler and Hama cover the common 5 mm midi ranges, Artkal S is the soft 5 mm series and MARD is the 221-color standard range popular for large portraits.
Are the bead colors on screen exact?+
They are close approximations compiled from community color charts, not manufacturer spectrophotometer data. Dye lots and lighting vary, so treat the codes as the source of truth and check the physical beads for very close shades.
